Children and Chiropractic - Why?
By now, you've experienced firsthand
the benefits of chiropractic care and how it can improve your overall
health. But what about your children? Have you ever
considered bringing them in for a chiropractic checkup?
Surprisingly, the first stress placed
on a child's spinal column is during the birthing process. Equally
surprising is the fact that 26% of children surveyed at school reported
a history of back pain.
A child's spine is frequently
subjected to repeated forces in the process of learning to walk, as well
as a multitude of childhood mishaps, sport-related injuries, and
postural strains.
Many adults that come to a chiropractor's office show evidence of
childhood injuries to their spine that are a contributing factor for
their pain today. That's why it's important to have your child's
spine checked regularly for any signs of imbalance or misalignment.
Fortunately, chiropractic has had many
positive results in treating some very common childhood maladies.
Problems like colic (and what parent wouldn't have done anything
to fix that!), headaches, ear infections, scoliosis, asthma, and even
some cases of behavioral problems and bed-wetting have been successfully
treated with chiropractic care. In fact, a recent study showed
that children under chiropractic care suffered from fewer ear infections
than those whose parents sought medical care alone.
Is it safe? Absolutely. Because a child's
skeletal system is still developing, there is a great deal of elasticity
within the joints. Light pressure is usually all that is needed to
adjust a child's spine.
So the next time you come to our office, bring your
child(ren). The few minutes you invest in your child's spinal
checkup may save them needless suffering now and in the future.
Welcome, Dr. Eric Pasierb!
We are proud to to announce the addition of
Dr. Eric Pasierb to the Finn Chiropractic Group family! Originally
from Somerset County, Dr. Pasierb recently moved to Pittsburgh and
joined Finn Chiropractic in August. He graduated from Penn State
University in 2002 with a Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology.
He interned with a local chiropractor and
learned how chiropractic treats not just the symptoms, but the
structural causes, of many ailments. Dr. Pasierb believes that
physical fitness and rehabilitation are essential for optimum benefit in
chiropractic care. And because of his strong desire to help people
and aide them in achieving good health, Dr. Pasierb knew chiroporactic
was his calling.
During his time at New York Chiropractic
College, Dr. Pasierb received a diverse education, and has become
familiar in treating an array of musculoskeletal problems with the most
current techniques. He has received training in ergonomics,
rheumatology, sports injuries and has learned several soft tissue
techniques. In addition to Pennsylvania, Dr. Pasierb also holds a
chiropractic license in Virginia, and is an active member of the
American Chiropractic Association.
In his spare time, Dr. Pasierb is an avid
golfer and sports enthusiast. He especially loves Penn State
football (of course!), and cheers for the Steelers, Penguins and
Pirates. He also enjoys running local 5K and 10K events and
perfecting his grilling skills.
If you haven't yet met Dr. Pasierb, please
say hello the next time you're at the office!
Climbing the Ladder: Fall Safety
Soon it will officially be Autumn. The days get shorter, the air
gets cooler, and the leaves change colors and float to the ground.
But not all of them make it to the ground, do they? If you have a lot
of trees around your house, you'll likely be cleaning those stray
leaves out of your clogged gutters.
While it's not a chore most homeowners enjoy, it can also be a dangerous
one. Falls from a ladder can be very serious, even fatal. So
before you start climbing the rungs of that tall ladder, we wanted to
share a few tips to help keep you safe when your feet are off the
ground:
-
Make sure no overhead obstructions and power lines are in the way
-
Lock or block nearby doors to keep people from suddenly or accidentally
bumping the ladder
-
Keep the area around the ladder base free of clutter
-
Rest the ladder base on a solid, level surface. If you're not on a
solid surface, use a large board to level the surface and keep the
ladder from sinking into soft ground.
-
Tie a straight ladder as close to the upper support point as possible
-
Make sure the ladder extends three feet beyond the roof's edge or
support point when using a ladder to reach a roof platform.
-
Make sure stepladders are fully open and the spreader is locked.
-
Never use a ladder outside during strong winds or stormy weather.
Sure,
some of these go without saying, right? But everyone reading this
has broken at least of these rules at some point. Come on, you
know who you are! Use this to reinforce and remind yourself of
ladder safety - and be careful up there.
